Test Support


Rocket Engine Test Support.

Engineering and support for rocket engine and thruster testing at the Lampoldshausen test centre.

 

Activities

  • Engineering for:

    • special test set-ups
    • design and layout of complete test facilities, e.g. P1.3, P1.6, P3.2
    • complete EMC systems, e.g. AMECOS system P1, P3
    • cryogenic HP and VHP systems
    • new measurement methods (thrust measurement)
    • design and layout for test facility components (tanks, valves, pipes etc.)

  • Flight Propellants:

    • MMH purification and certification
    • MON production and purification with certification
    • filling and transport of propellants to launch pads - world wide

  • Support:

    measurement support for production, Unified Propulsion System (UPS) integration and satellite propellant filling team

 

Test Facility Engineering

  • Design of new bipropellant test facility (P1.3) for 10 N and 22 N thrusters. Status: accepted

  • Design of new monopropellant test cell for 5 to 400 N thrusters. Status: run-in

  • Replacement of the EMC systems for the P1.2 and P1.4 test cells

  • Automatic test sequences for acceptance testing
  • Modification of P 3.2 for the Vinci thrust chamber tests for:

    • Injector spray pattern investigation
    • LH2 CC flow checks
    • Ignition limit tests (LH2 temp. ~ 30 K) under vacuum conditions
    • Ignition and ramp up tests to steady state

  • Modification of HP systems at PF 52 (ESA facility at Vernon / Snecma)

 

EMC Services

  • Conduct Measurement Services:

    • Calibration, instrumentation of test specimens
    • Sequencing, measurement data acquisition services during tests
    • Leasing of instrumentation, measurement equipment to EADS internal partners
    • Test data management, storage, back-up, test evaluation, transfer to customers

  • EMC Engineering Work

    • Amecos-Project (EADS Measurement and Control System)
    • EMC system layout design for special measurement, e.g. Vinci injector spray tests, investment projects for production
    • Thrust measurement devices in the thrust range 100 mN to 1500 kN
