RESUS - System Performance

Example: Kilo Class submarine ascent parameters after initiation of gas generators.

After initiation of the gas generators, the RESUS system blows the forward main ballast tanks and ejects water in a very short time. Each generator produces gas at a constant rate for about 13 seconds. During the start phase, Automatic step-by-step initiation of individual gas generators prevents overloading the main ballast tanks. System performance has been successfully tested and demonstrated on board a number of different submarines.

The figure below shows the ascent parameters of a submarine surfacing after an emergency activation of RESUS. This example is based on a Kilo Class submarine with a leakage at diving depth pressure in the forward compartment.
