Release Document References

The SPRdb added the standard prefix of SPRs (<project>-<company>-) automatically to any release document reference. This has been changed:

  1. The SPRdb does not use any longer the static standard prefix of SPRs for release document references on the SPR's STATUS page.
  2. New List of Prefixes* (optional and defined per SPRdb instance)
There will be an optional list of predefined prefixes for document references incl. an optional 'No Prefix' entry. This list is presented while creating new releases on the 'New Release' or 'Administration: Insert Release' page.
  3. No blanks in release document references*
It is not possible to enter blanks in release documents any longer. This change affects the following pages: 'Update Status', 'New Release' and 'Administration: Insert Release'.
(*) The new behaviour can only be seen by users with UPDATE or ADMIN privilege.

This change offers more flexibility w.r.t. release document references. Existing release document references will be updated after approval of the main SPRdb contact.

New privilege QUERY and Personal Scope

A new privilege QUERY was introduced to support read-only usage of the SPRdb.

As the UPDATE privilege, the QUERY privilege supports a restriction to certain products. If that optional QUERY privilege restriction is activated for a user, only that SPRs are accessible of which products are part of the user's restriction definition. This privilege restriction defines a personal scope of the entire SPRdb content. The personal scope works even when a user has other privileges, e.g. SUBMIT or UPDATE. A hint about the 'Personal Scope' appears on the homepage and at the footer area when this restriction has been activated. The user is able to check the restriction settings in the 'User List'.

Please use the administration contact links if you need more information.

Advanced Query

The Advanced Query has been restuctured:

  • Query Page

The advanced query is split into four parts.
The user is able to jump between these pages:

    1. Report title and layout
NEW: Optional usage of PRIORITY colors for "COLORED ROWS" option.

    2. Query definition
NEW: The logical association of each query item can be selected from the OPERATOR list. Supported operations are AND, AND NOT, OR and OR NOT. The default is AND.

    3. Column selection
NEW: The order of the columns in the report can be defined.

    4. Result ordering
NEW: The order of the SPRs in the report can be defined.

  • Bookmark Handling

Due to the increasing length of the query definitions, bookmarking a query result is now handled internaly in SPRdb. Browser based bookmarking can not be used any longer. To bookmark a report just click on the bookmark icon at the top of the report.

All personal bookmarks can be viewed when clicking the bookmark link at the home page (Queries->Bookmarks). From there bookmarks can be visited, edited or removed. To organize the bookmarks, folders can be used.

Existing user bookmarks will be still supported for the time being. You will see a notice about that when using an old browser based bookmark. Later only SPRdb bookmarks will be accepted.

The ten mostly visited bookmarks are available in a drop-down menu on the homepage.

New Parameter: DUPLICATE OF

A new parameter called DUPLICATE OF is created and should hold the SPR number of the original SPR, when the SPR status is declared as DUPLICATE. This number must be entered when updating an SPR and should point to a valid SPR which is not a duplicate itself. Furthermore an SPR, which is an original to other duplicate SPRs, is not allowed to be changed to status DUPLICATE.

Clarification:

  • Original-Duplicate Relation

The duplicate SPR describes the same problem as the original.

  • Parent-Child Relation

A sub-problem of the parent SPR is handled by the child SPR.

You can find more information about this new parameter in the SPRdb User Manual, chapters 4.1.19 and 6.9.

Various Small Enhancements

Project's SPRdb Homepage: Remote Control

The position of the link to the remote control function was changed.

Also the remote control function itself was changed.

Advanced Query: Layout of Report

A new feature was added to the layout of the report.

By checking 'WRAP LONG TEXT FIELDS' all table cells of text fields larger than 75 characters are wrapped. By doing so the width of the table will be adapted to the width of the browser's window. This may help to get a better hard copy of the results if the width of unwrapped results is larger than the window's width.

New Feature: Forwarding SPRs

SPR Forwarding allows an existing SPR in one system to be forwarded to a different system. The process creates a duplicate SPR in the system where the SPR is being forwarded to. The two SPRs are completely separate to each other therefore the progress of each one is completely independent from the other.

At the moment SPR forwarding is available only from ATV-TF SPRdb to COL SPRdb and from SAT SPRdb to COL SPRdb and only for SPRs with product CGS.

Finally to forward an SPR the user has to have an account in both systems, the original system of the SPR and the system to which the SPR is to be forwarded to. So for the above cases the user should have an account to both ATV-TF SPRdb and COL SPRdb resp. SAT SPRdb and COL SPRdb.

New Feature: Download of entire content of an attachment directory

The link 'Directory Download' on each document with attachments allows downloading of the entire content at once. The content of the directory will be archived as a compressed TAR file before sent to the user. Depending on the size of the directory it may take a while to generate this file. The tool to open the file depends on the operating system used at the client side. On Windows WinZip may be used. On Unix standard commands like uncompress and tar are applicable.

  • display of action links in the panel area
  • new label behaviour: active labels are navigatable
  • panel will be displayed on update pages
  • short help texts over panel and footer links - also known as bubblehelp
  • display of account name in the footer

In the Advanced Query the menu types of several items have been changed to multi-select options. Windows user have to remember that they have to hold down the 'Control' key while clicking on items to select multiple entries.

The User List is now ordered by name.

Directory information about the author are shown on the STATUS page as bubblehelp. (Only available for intranet users.)

Changes to Lifecycle

Please note the following changes to the lifecycle:

  • Status Renaming

    • Status SPR-APPR becomes APPROVED
    • Status SPA-APPR becomes ANALYZED

  • New OPEN Status

    • VERIFIED

  • New CLOSED Statuses

    • DUPLICATE
    • USE AS IS
    • WITHDRAWN

  • New Color Codes

The color coding of the statuses was changed to bring more clarity. The chain yellow -> orange -> red symbolizes the SPRs, which are to be really processed. If a solution is available, the color green results. The successful test is represented by cyan as preliminary stage to release. The release represents a frozen status, which is symbolized by blue. All other statuses of the CLOSED class are represented over black, since these problems caused no modification.

    NEW
    APPROVED
    ANALYZED
    RESOLVED
    VERIFIED
    RELEASED
    REJECTED
    DUPLICATE
    USE AS IS
    WITHDRAWN
  • Lifecycle Changes

The status VERIFIED was inserted between RESOLVED and RELEASED to present a status for successfully tested problem solutions. The statuses DUPLICATE, USE AS IS and WITHDRAWN are CLOSED statuses and closely related to the status REJECTED.

According to this lifecycle change all previously entered information were updated. That concern the status information itself as well as the history entries. For a transition period the Advanced Query will be still support SPR-APPR and SPA-APPR related queries. With respect to the new status VERIFIED a new tracking list was introduced. The "Pending Re-Test" list shows all SPRs which have been successfully re-tested but are still in an OPEN status which is not VERIFIED. The "New Release" page shows now all RESOLVED and VERIFIED SPRs.

Advanced Query: CREATED and MODIFIED date

Starting from now the search for a CREATED and MODIFIED date has been enhanced. This modification causes that the user is not able to use bookmarks any longer which are related to CREATED or MODIFIED and which have been previously stored with respect to this change.

As a new feature it is possible now to look alternatively for a relatively or an absolutely specified date or period.

  • Relative Search

    By specifying

    • SINCE LAST LOGIN
    • TODAY
    • THIS WEEK
    • THIS MONTH
    • THIS YEAR
    • YESTERDAY
    • LAST WEEK
    • LAST MONTH
    • LAST YEAR

the user executes a search with a relative specification. The query takes the actual date and retrieves all SPRs which are related to the selected specification. This applies also to stored bookmarks. E.g. a user bookmarks a query with CREATED is 'THIS WEEK'. Whenever the user executes the query the system retrieves the SPRs of the actual week.

A query with 'SINCE LAST LOGIN' searchs for dates which are equal to or newer than the date of the last user login. The last login information is retrieved from a cookie. So this feature depends on your brower's settings. Please enable cookies to use this feature. Generally it works for logins after December 1st, 2000.

  • Absolute Search

    Three search types are available:

    • Newer than Search

Entering a START date and leaving the END date blank looks for all SPRs equal to or newer than the START date.

    • Older than Search

Entering an END date and leaving the START date blank looks for all SPRs older than or equal to the END date.

    • Between Search

By entering both, START and END date, the query looks for all SPRs dated from the period between - START and END date included.

External Status Tracking

A new field named 'EXTERNAL STATUS' was introduced to indicate the external status of an SPRs. The project itself defines the usage of this field. E.g. it may be used to track a customer status. The project 'Columbus' uses the field to track the status of MRB dispositions. Values of the field are also project depended. The defaults are 'OPEN' and 'CLOSED'. The project 'Columbus' uses the values 'MRB NEW', 'MRB PARTIAL', 'MRB FINAL', 'MRB CLOSED' and 'MRB RELATED'. The field 'EXTERNAL STATUS' is generally optional. It may be entered during SPR submission. Users with board privilege are able to update the field. The field will be displayed on the SPR status page. It is also part of the advanced query. A hard print copy is available. All currently registered users will get this copy automatically till end of May 1999. Please request a copy after that date or if you are not a registered user through SPRdb Helpdesk.

Full Support of SMD

The SPRdb supports now the handling of 'electronic' SMDs. The acronym 'Fix' on any SPR page navigates you to this new feature. There are two ways to enter SMD related information into SPRdb:

  1. AUTOMATIC

The code changes will be controlled by an automated CM system. If you do a SPR related check-in operation, essential information will be repeated as SMD in the SPRdb. Currently this will be supported by the PDB. The check-in operation is the provide issue action.

  2. MANUAL

You may also enter SMD related information via the well-known Web Interface. There are two constraints which restrict this. First, the corresponding SPR must be in a OPEN (NEW, SPR-APPR, SPA-APPR, RESOLVED) state and second there has to be an analysis (SPA) for this SPR. Please document why and how you will change the software to overcome the problem on the SPA and that you have done this with the SMD.

There are two classes of SMDs - PERMANENT and TEMPORARY. PERMANENT code changes are the 'normal way'. If the board requested a patch please indicated the related code changes as TEMPORARY. The abbreviation of TEMPORARY fix is 'PATCH'. To ensure proper traceability e.g. when patches will be delivered to external sites the SPRdb generated a unique identification for each patch. The syntax is: PATCH-SPR-<spr number>{-<patch revision>} e.g. PATCH-SPR-5000. The abbreviation PATCH appears also as meta version. There is a ToDo list for this version which means that any SPR on this ToDo list shall be temporary fixed.

Once a SMD was entered it gets the initial state 'PROPOSED'. The board will review the information and the SMD becomes either 'ACCEPTED' or 'REJECTED'. The status is displayed on each SMD separately and can only be changed by a user which is member of the 'SRB' SPRdb User Group.

Please keep in mind that the 'Advanced Query' page retrieves only the latest SMD.

Parent Child Relationship

The SPRdb functionality was extended to handle hierarchies of SPRs more comfortable:

  • SPR STATUS pages
    • display of parent and / or child if there any with their current status
    • hyperlink to "ADD CHILD" functionality
  • "ADD CHILD" functionality
    • following the a.m. link on the SPR STATUS page lets you create a child SPR
    • automatic reference to parent SPR
    • no manual COPY / PASTE necessary
    • provide reason for child creation in field REMARK
    • the new generated SPR will be linked to the parent
  • SPR UPDATE
    • the SRB is able to change the reference to the parent SPR
    • empty parent reference field means: NO PARENT
  • PARENT CHILD RELATIONSHIP QUERY
    • a new query called 'Parent Child Relationship' shows all parents with their children
    • the related product and the current state of the SPR will be displayed
    • you will see the title of the parent and the current remark of the children
The reason for the improvement of 'Parent Child Relationship' is to support the tracking of parallel activities during SPR lifecycle. Examples would be parallel work of several development teams on different products to solve a problem or the implementation of a temporary fix (patch).
